Texas HB 1522: New Open Meetings Act Posting Deadline

House Bill 1522 updates Texas Government Code ยง551.043(a) by changing the meeting notice requirement for governmental bodies. Instead of the previous 72-hour deadline, public meeting notices must now be posted at least three (3) business days in advance.

For example, if a city council or county commissioners court plans to meet on a Monday evening, the agenda must be publicly posted no later than the end of business on the preceding Wednesday.

This new rule means Texas governmental entities must plan agendas earlier, adjust internal workflows, and stay proactive to ensure compliance with the Texas Open Meetings Act.
